How the Loss of the Great Mother Shaped Modern Civilization, Gender, and the Human Psyche
Long before patriarchy and organized religion reshaped human civilization, many early cultures lived within a worldview centered on the Great Mother. The Earth was understood as sacred and alive, and women served as healers, midwives, and spiritual leaders within community life. Over thousands of years, this sacred orientation gradually fractured through conquest, patriarchal religious systems, and the persecution of women’s spiritual authority. The removal of the Feminine from the center of culture reshaped our relationship to power, gender, the body, and the Earth itself. In this two-hour class, Dr. Leonor Murciano-Luna traces the historical arc from ancient Mother cultures to the modern world, exploring how this civilizational rupture continues to shape society today—and why the reawakening of the Feminine may be essential for restoring balance in a time of global crisis.
