“Why she had to go I don’t know she wouldn’t say. I said something wrong now I long for yesterday.”
- The Beatles
When I think about the last 5 years it is clear now that I have been on an epic journey to restore lost aspects of myself that I did not know were indeed lost.
Perhaps you have felt this way as well?
Maybe it came as an impulse to slow down in your life.
Maybe you found yourself picking up a creative outlet that had been dormant for some time.
Maybe there was a pause in your life, and you realized that the job you were working for no longer “fit” you.
Maybe your life blew up in a big way and you found yourself with no map or compass.
Or perhaps it was a quiet voice inside that started to point you in the direction of the outdoors and nature.
Regardless of how you got here, I have decided this journey of inner alchemy takes a heck of a lot of courage and strength. Because it is one thing to hear the call and another to answer the call.
In this process of recovering and restoring ourselves, we are shining a spotlight into our lives and taking notice of what is working and what is no longer working for us.
For myself, the ability to slow down, become spacious, and mindfully listen to the heart was a critical aspect of the journey home. The practices I use are time in nature, writing, mindful movement, meditation, and energy healing.
How did I cultivate these practices, so they became part of my life?
It started with a choice, to shift my life from 5th gear into 1st gear in terms of how I moved through the day and how I spent my time.
It required me to set boundaries so that I had space for myself at least once a day but hopefully more time, to tune in and listen deeply.
It involved following the instincts and quiet nudges to make changes in my life. These changes created a little more space so I could listen more deeply and ask questions.
It continues to evolve as I listen deeply and ask new questions of myself such as:
These questions may take time to reflect on and the answers certainly may not come overnight. I think of it as a practice as we start a bidirectional conversation with the part of us that holds our deeper wisdom.
It was easy to start once I made the inner commitment to “be there” for myself.
